VDMA: Good first half year in mechanical engineering

VDMA: “After a short breather, incoming orders in the mechanical engineering sector in Germany once again showed double-digit growth.

In June, orders increased by 13 percent in real terms compared to the previous year. The impulse came almost synchronously from Germany and abroad (Germany: plus 12 percent, abroad: plus 13 percent). Order growth from non-euro countries (plus 16 percent) was significantly higher than from the euro partner countries (plus 7 percent).

Mechanical engineering companies can be very satisfied with the first half of 2018.

“Mechanical engineering companies can be very satisfied with the first half of 2018, with order books filling up by 7 percent overall. This fully met the positive expectations for the current year,” says VDMA Chief Economist Dr. Ralph Wiechers. Domestic orders increased by 10 percent in real terms in the first six months, with 6 percent more orders coming from abroad. “The propensity to invest in Germany has picked up noticeably, which benefits our industry,” analyses Wiechers. German mechanical engineering companies increased sales by 4 percent in real terms in the first half of the year.
In a three-month comparison between April and June, orders increased by 8 percent in real terms compared with the same quarter of the previous year. The 11 percent increase in domestic orders exceeded the 7 percent increase in orders from abroad.”
